Spring Mill State Park is a very complete park, with at least five caves! You have the option to explore one of them by boat and with a guide. This activity is seasonal, requires an additional fee, and availability is very limited. Its main attraction is Pioneer Village, which features live reenactments and many beautiful buildings to explore. There are also several creeks flowing throughout the park, and much of the area is shaded. The second-best attraction, in our opinion, is Donaldson Cave. If you are looking for a place to spend an entire day, or even a full weekend, this is the perfect place! If you visit the park during September or October, you may find a fruit called pawpaw, which tastes like a combination of mango and banana.

Our Trip Spring Mill State Park

This is our recommended parking spot. There are many other options, but this is the best spot to explore the top hiking trails.

Pioneer Village is a true hidden gem in Indiana. The village is full of historic buildings, and on busy days they hold historical reenactments. The main building features exhibits of antique artifacts.

Hamer Cave has been documented for being large, and although access is difficult, we have never been prohibited from approaching it and exploring the entrance.

Donaldson Cave is very large and located several minutes from the village. The hike along Trail 4 (Historic Trail) is more than worth it. Along the way you can find a fruit called pawpaw during the months of September and October.

Drive to the second parking lot. The drive there may be a little confusing since it's a one-way road in some stretches.

Bronson Cave appears to be two caves, and although there are no stairs directly to the entrances, both locals and other visitors can climb down and enter to explore it.

NOTE: Purchase your tickets immediately when you arrive at Spring Mill. The Twin Caves are another major attraction, and you can admire their beauty on a guided boat tour.
